Los Angeles earthquake: hit Southern California on Friday night
The Los Angeles area was rocked by an earthquake on Friday night. The quake occurred at 11:38 pm and lasted about 20-30 seconds. Its epicenter was in Rosemead, in eastern Los Angeles, less than a mile from South El Monte, with a preliminary magnitude of 4.6, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. The magnitude was later revised to 4.5. The site was almost the same as the Magnitude 5.9 Whittier Narrows earthquake in 1987, according to seismologist Dr. Lucy Jones.
The earthquake was felt throughout the Los Angeles area and even Palm Springs and San Diego. There are no immediate reports of damage or injury.
