In the most recent episode of his podcast, actor Dax Shepard spoke openly about his battle with substance abuse and his recent relapse.
The star spoke recently on his “Armchair Expert” podcast, Shepard said he started taking opioids again after 16 years of sobriety, the Los Angeles Times reported.
At the beginning of the podcast episode, entitled “Day 7”, Shepard said he was “too afraid” to talk about his addictions.
“One of (my fears) is that people might bombard me with things I did wrong or judgments of what I should or shouldn’t have done.”
“Many people were inspired to try to be sober based on our transparency. And I was very afraid that these people might feel cheated. And another part is the ego – which, ‘I am 16 years old. I’m 16. I’m 16. ‘And this is something that people can aspire to have.”
During hir recent relapse, Shepard, 45, said he did not “have a single desire, fantasy or ideation about drinking or using cocaine,” Today reported.
“The only thing I hope people will hear is that, at least in my case, the result was nothing like I feared,” said Shepard. “Secrets are much more painful than whatever the consequences of owning my secrets were.”
“I know I have to stop, but my tolerance is rising so fast that I’m now in a situation where I’m taking eight (oxycodone hydrochloride tablets) a day, and I know it’s an amount that will result in a very withdrawal bad, ”said Shepard. “And I start to get really scared, and I’m starting to feel really lonely, and I just have a huge secret.”
