Eddie Van Halen, the legendary guitarist, and songwriter named the band Van Halen died on Tuesday after a battle with cancer. He was 65 years old.

Ten years later, he and his brother formed the band together with vocalist David Lee Roth and bassist Michael Anthony. They broke barriers in rock, selling 80 million records worldwide and joining the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2007. Over the years, their successes, including “Jump”, “Hot for Teacher”, “Running with the Devil ”and“ Panama ”led them to multi-platinum success.

His death was announced by his son, Wolf Van Halen, at Twitter.

“I can’t believe I’m having to write this,” said the statement, “but my father, Edward Lodewijk Van Halen, lost his long and arduous battle with cancer this morning. He was the best father I could ask for. Each moment that I shared with him on and off the stage was a gift.”

In November 2019 Eddie was reportedly hospitalized after suffering a negative reaction to his cancer drug. He was admitted for abdominal pain and intestinal problems. The reactions were supposed to be reactions to his drugs to fight throat cancer. Van Halen had been traveling to Germany for the past five years to undergo radiation to fight cancer.

His wife Jane was at his side while cancer spread over his body. He passed away in Santa Monica on Tuesday. The rocker went through several health difficulties over the years after being diagnosed with cancer. In 2019, he was hospitalized after suffering a negative reaction to his cancer drug.

Van Halen was included in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2007.
