Chinese Air Force video shows what looks like a simulated attack to the US base in Guam
The Chinese Air Force released a video showing H-6 bombers with nuclear capability carrying out a simulated attack on what appears to be the Andersen Air Force Base on the island of Guam in the US Pacific, while regional tensions are rising.
The video was released on Saturday on the Weibo account of the People’s Liberation Army Air Force, according to an article by Reuter published in the U.S. News and World Report. The video was released after the United States recently sent a State Department official to Taiwan, angering officials in Beijing.
The video shows a group of H-6 bombers taking off from a base, a finger pressing a button and an explosion on a runway, according to Reuters.
“The missile hits the runway, a satellite image that is shown looks exactly like Andersen’s layout, although it has no name,” Reuters reported.
According to a recent report by the US Department of Defense on China, the country’s bomber force is comprised of variants of H-6 Badger.
“The H-6 K can carry six (ground attack cruise missiles), giving the (People’s Liberation Army) long-range precision attack capability. reach that can reach Guam from domestic airports in mainland China, “said the Defense Department report.
Tensions between the US and China are high now. Chinese military planes flew near Taiwan on Saturday when U.S. Under Secretary of State Keith Krach met with Taiwan’s president, the Wall Street Journal reported.
On August 29, US Defense Secretary Mark Esper met with Japanese Defense Minister Taro Kono in Guam to discuss China’s actions.
Specifically, Esper mentioned “China’s evil behavior in the region under the leadership of the Chinese Communist Party, including the intimidation and coercion of its neighbors and its continued aggression in the eastern and southern China seas”. Said Esper. “We remain firm in our opposition to Beijing’s destabilizing activities in the region,” said Esper.
