AMD shares sink and Xilinx soar after rumors of advanced merger talks

The shares of Advanced Micro Devices Inc. AMD , sank 5.2% in Friday’s pre-market,

while Xilinx Inc . XLNX, up 17% after the Wall Street Journal reported that AMD was in advanced negotiations to buy rival chip maker Xilinx in a business valued at more than $ 30 billion.

At the close of Thursday, the company had a market capitalization of $ 25.89 billion, while AMD’s market capitalization was $ 101.57 billion.
