Brazilian Thiago Cortes may have suffered an intentional hit and run in Dublin

The family of the hit victim Thiago Cortes can spread his ashes in a park here because it was “his dream to live in Dublin,” said his father.

Thiago, 28, died at Mater Hospital in Dublin yesterday morning (September 2) after he was knocked off his bicycle at North Wall Quay while working Monday night. Thiago worked as a delivery man for the delivery player Deliveroo.

The devastated Celso Cortes (Thiago’s father) says that one of the few things that consoles him at the moment is that Thiago was “living his dream” when he died.

He explained: “Only those who have been through this can understand the emptiness, the extent of the pain.

“It’s complicated, but what is comforting is that he was there, living his dream.”

Cortes said one option the family is considering is to spread its ashes on Mountjoy Square in Dublin, a park that Thiago particularly liked.

However, no final decision has been made and his remains can also be repatriated back to his hometown, Rio.

Mr. Cortes added: “I will continue to love you for the rest of my life”.

“A son does not die, he distances himself. One day, we’ll see each other again. “

Both Mr. Cortes and Thiago’s fiancee, Teresa Dantas, praised the support they received from the Officer who are looking for their killers.

Teresa said: “The police are very attentive. I have a detective in contact with me every day. He came to my house and told me how long the investigation would take ”.

And she believes Thiago may have been deliberately shot – but the Officer said there is no evidence that this is the case.

The couple had lived in Ireland for over two years and had been together for six.

Dantas said it was Thiago’s idea to move to Ireland in search of a better life.

She said: “He was not very happy in Brazil and he thought we could have better opportunities”.

POSSIBLE TARGET

Teresa said: “The feeling we have as Brazilian immigrants is that it was definitely deliberate”.

“There is a history of aggression against couriers, most of them Brazilian”.

“The avenue where he was run over is very wide and at the time of the accident there was no traffic over there”.

“So it was impossible for them not to see it and to avoid it. For me, it was definitely deliberate. “

However, the Officer say the matter is still under investigation and they await a technical examination of the 05 Ford Focus ‘company car’ – purchased for € 200 – before drawing any conclusions.

Meanwhile, a GoFundMe campaign to raise money for Teresa’s heartbroken expenses at the moment brought together almost € 50,000 in donations in just 24 hours.
