Several injured in reported active shooter incident outside Pentagon

ARLINGTON, VA – The Pentagon in Arlington County was placed in lockdown this Tuesday morning due to an active firefight situation. Several shots were fired at the Pentagon Transit Center’s bus platform, according to a tweet from the Pentagon Protection Force Agency.

The sniper was shot by a Pentagon police officer and was unable to enter the Pentagon building, an official with the Pentagon Force Protection Agency said. Another police officer was injured and is being transported to seek medical attention. There are no additional suspects at this point and the scene is safe. Personnel are still being instructed to remain inside the building for now, the official said.

The Associated Press is reporting that at least one person died, according to two people who witnessed the incident.

Arlington County Firefighters and EMS report that the scene is still active. In addition, the department reported several injured, according to a post on its official Twitter account.

ART Routes 42 and 87 will be diverted to the Pentagon City Mall Metro until further notice.

Arlington County Police are directing people to avoid the area around the Pentagon Subway Station, according to a tweet. Buses are now being diverted to the Pentagon City Station. Metro trains will also bypass the station.
