The long-awaited meeting of Mike Tyson, 54 and Roy Jones Jr., 51 will take place this Saturday and the stage will be the Staples Center in Los Angeles. Although the fight was considered an exhibition by the state commission, Tyson, Jones and the promoters of the fight said that both are coming in with the intention of fighting.

Mike Tyson took the stage on Friday and weighed 220 pounds, tearing off his shirt to reveal a muscular torso that could have belonged to an athlete in his mid-54s.

The former heavyweight champion went to a protective glass case from COVID and came face to face with Roy Jones Jr., who was once the most talented fighter in the world. Jones’ 210-pound body was slightly less toned, but still clearly better off than most of his 51-year-old colleagues.

Their fight at the Staples Center is a kind of eight-round sparring session. There will be two-minute rounds, without official judgment and limited violence, although the limit depends on whether you are asking the California State Athletic Commission or the fighters, who intend to release their hands.

“Maybe I don’t know how to go easy,” Tyson said. “I don’t know. I don’t want to say the wrong thing. I don’t want the commission mad at me.”
